What Does the Catholic Church Say About Purgatory?

What Does the BIBLE Say About Purgatory? Absolutely NOTHING!!!

According to the Catholic Church, the souls of men who have died under grace but are not free of all imperfections go to purgatory. The Catholic Church teaches that "the soul in purgatory must be freed of certain defects: (1) the guilt of venial sin; (2) the inclination toward sin (inordinate or excessive desires); and (3) temporal punishment due to sin". The Catholic Church also teaches that the punishment due to sin, whether mortal or venial, is not always and necessarily forgiven along with the guilt of sin; therefore this punishment must be paid by the sinner either in this life or in the next before he can enter the kingdom of Heaven.

The Catholic church also teaches that: "Concretely, the souls in purgatory can be helped by works of piety, such as prayer, indulgences, alms, fasting, and sacrifices. These works are undertaken by the faithful on earth . . . and they are performed for the benefit of these souls."  It says that "the manner in which this is accomplished is hidden in the mystery of divine wisdom."

While teaching the damnable heresy of purgatory, the Catholic Church is CLEARLY saying that Christ's work on the cross was NOT sufficient to take away our sin. They claim It only takes away our guilt. SO . . . according to the Catholic Church, whether Christ died or not, we must go to purgatory to pay for our sins.

What Does the BIBLE Say About Purgatory?

The Bible says absolutely NOTHING about purgatory. There is NOT one place in the entire Word of God that tells us that the souls of men must pay for their sins before going to Heaven.

YES! The Bible does speak of sin and of its results. It also speaks of WHAT people will face after death. http://www.hisservants.org/death_then_what_1.1.htm

The Bible also teaches that because of our sins we are condemned to eternal death (Eze.18:4,20; Rom.6:23; Gal.3:10-13,22; Rev.20:15).

Jesus Christ died for our sins, taking the curse of our sins upon Himself (I Pet.2:24; Gal. 3:13-14). The Bible says clearly that Jesus' death was enough to pay for all our sins:
Hebrews 10:10-14 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (KJV)

Because of Christ's Sacrifice, God also makes another Promise in the same chapter: Hebrews 10:17-18 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (KJV) . . . Remember our sins NO more!!!

ONLY through Christ Jesus can we have remission of sins. When He was sacrificed on the cross of Calvary, God made Him our eternal High Priest. We do NOT need a human priest on Earth! JESUS is all we need!

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (KJV)

Notice that the Bible says that Christ's offering was forever. It says that by one offering He has perfected forever them that are sanctified. And it says that beyond Christ's death, there is no more sacrifice for sin. By the sacrifice of Himself, Christ has saved forever those that come to God by Him.
The Bible says absolutely NOTHING about us suffering the punishment of our sins if we receive salvation through Christ.

The Bible nowhere mentions any punishment that awaits the righteous after death. Instead, it describes a pure bliss that awaits them.

Why I Do NOT Believe in Purgatory!

I do not believe in purgatory because God does NOT mention it anywhere in the Bible. My dear friend, IF God does not tell us about purgatory in His Holy Word . . . who else has the authority to do so? Only God can tell us what is beyond death, and He does so, clearly in the Bible! If men, who certainly have not seen what is BEYOND death, create a system of what will happen AFTER death, do you think their system is valid? NO WAY!!! And even though they say it thousands of times over thousands of years, it is NOTHING more than a tradition of men (Col.2:5), a commandment of men (Mat.15:9), which Jesus condemns!
Paul warns: Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (KJV)

The New Catholic Encyclopedia says, "In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not Sacred Scriptures."

SO, WHY do Catholics believe it???

Consider the following: Colossians 2:13-14 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (KJV) . . . Having forgiven you ALL trespasses . . . I believe when the Bible says "all sins" it means ALL of them. None of us know much about eternal things and the invisible world, and we cannot believe anything more than what the Bible states! We CANNOT add to it (Rev.22:18), or we shall be harshly judged! Friend, if you are a Catholic, you will NOT ever be purified in purgatory. Only Jesus can justify you (declare you NOT guilty in the courts of Heaven). IF Jesus righteousness (1 Cor.1:30) is not credited to our account, we are NOT justified (Rom.5:1,9) we are NOT saved!
