Should a TRUE Christian be involved in the ecumenical movement?
NO!! Absolutely NOT! Stay away, far away! This movement is of the devil!
Ecumenism a religious movement that is trying to unite all Christians and bring all the different denominations together in joint cooperation.
John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (KJV)
Eph. 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (KJV)
So Biblically, Christians should pursue unity with one another . . . BUT . . . how does this apply to the modern ecumenical movement?
The modern ecumenical movement often goes far beyond uniting Christians, seeking to connect Protestants, Catholics and non-Christian religions. These modern ecumenical leaders promote "interfaith dialogue" with Mormons, Islamists, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, Universalists, and a variety of New Age belief systems. Dear friend, any such efforts OPPOSE the idea of Christian unity as presented in the Holy Word of God! BEWARE!!! To accept ALL religions as equally valid is to DENY the uniqueness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
Yes, believers from almost any background can cooperate to fight poverty, or to take a pro-life stand . . . BUT . . . in other areas partnerships can send the wrong message or contradict a church's core beliefs. Recent attempts to bridge differences between Protestant and Catholic theology have included joint statements on salvation and the inspiration of Scripture. For a TRUE Christian to sign a statement that COMPROMISES core Biblical teaching is dangerous. Doctrines such as salvation by grace alone (Eph.2:8-9) and the authority of Scripture (1 Tim.3:16-17) should NEVER be compromised for the sake of a mock unity.
A desire for ecumenicalism must NEVER ignore the Bible's commands to maintain the purity of the Gospel (Gal.1:6-9; 2 Pet.2:1; Jude 1:3-4). Christians must test and verify everything, and hold fast what is good: 1 Thes. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (KJV)
It is extremely important that to ask our self: Who am I trying to please? God? Or man? It seems to me that this modern ecumenical movement is trying to please man, NOT God!
Christians are called to unity, but NOT at all costs. Doctrine is number ONE, because it concerns the Person and Work of Jesus Christ. Modern ecumenical efforts are simply far too ready to part with Biblical teachings. Christians must take exceptional care when calculating any potential partnership.
