Is Yoga Christian?
Yoga is NOT Christian, Yoga is NOT Biblical!
Yoga is one of the six classic systems of Hindu philosophy that practices certain disciplines to achieve freedom from the limitations of the flesh and lead to the fulfillment of knowledge. The goal of Yoga is not to achieve peace within, channeling, or the working of miracles, but the acquirement of knowledge. In fact, the Yoga doctrine insists that physical and mental training should be used only as a means to spiritual needs.
Yoga practice SUPPOSEDLY forms a ladder to perfect knowledge through eight steps:
- self-control,
- religious observance,
- postures,
- regulation of the breath,
- restraint of the senses,
- steadying of the mind,
- meditation, and
- profound contemplation.
According to Hindu beliefs, Brahman is the principle source of the universe. This divine intelligence exists in all beings. Thus all the Hindu gods and goddesses are manifestations of the one Brahman. Hinduism is based on the concept of reincarnation, in which all living beings, from plants to gods, live in a cycle of living and dying.
Life is determined by the law of karma. According to karma, the quality of rebirth is determined by the moral behavior displayed in the previous life. In this view, life on Earth is regarded as temporary and a challenge. The goal of existence is to reach liberation from the cycle of rebirth and death and enter into an indescribable state called moksha (liberation). The ones who reach this state no longer struggle with the cycle of life and death.
Is there such a thing as Christian Yoga? Yoga is a form of Eastern mysticism and is deceiving those who engage in it.
The February 1989 TBN Praise The
Lord newsletter declared that Paul and
Jan Crouch had interviewed Schuller and
cleared him of the “false” charge that he
promotes the New Age concepts “that
God is everything [and] that Christ ‘consciousness’ is already inherently
resident in each man [and woman]....”
Yet Schuller’s Possibilities magazine,
Summer 1986, promoted those very lies:
“...nothing exists except God. There is
no other reality.... The Christ spirit dwells
in every human being whether the person
knows it or not.” Unity, a totally New Age
mind-science cult (“God is everything,” “Christ consciousness in everyone,”
reincarnation, yoga, etc.) benefits from
Schuller’s repeated appearances at its
churches, headquarters, and functions.
He commends and encourages Unity to
keep up its good work and grow larger. This paragraph taken from The Berean Call newsletter July 1989, by Dave Hunt.
The Dalai Lama teaches that it is possible for all human beings
to eventually become a Buddha, a being
of the highest wisdom and compassion
and power - - - through a method called
Deity Yoga.
Deity Yoga is a special conscious act
of imagining that you are
already "god-like" and are able to create our own
reality - - - that you are Buddha.
Hitler also pursued the powers promised
by “Deity Yoga.” The occult powers which
the Dalai Lama offers as the key to
world peace, Hitler hoped to use for
world domination! The bodies of scores of
Tibetan Buddhist monks, whose “psychic
energies” were being used by Hitler, were
found in the ruins of Berlin.
The unbiblical practice of Christian Yoga is being sought after by many professing Christians. They just jump in head first without knowing any better. Even Hindu's recognize that Christian Yoga is still Hindu.
Pope John Paul II had
personal diplomacy with Hindus,
Buddhists, Muslims and the supporters of
many other religions. He was not out of line
with New Age events. John Paul II openly promoted the same
belief: That united prayers for peace of
every kind, from yoga to witchcraft rituals,
are releasing powerful “spiritual energies”
to heal our planet. The Roman Catholic
Church, like the World Council of Churches,
has been promoting global cooperation
among ALL religions for many years.
Should TRUE Christians
practice yoga? The 5/19/05 Christianity
Today online has an article in which the
author testifies that yoga has never had
any negative effect on her because she considers
it merely to be stretching exercises
and her focus is on the Lord, not on some
Hindu deity. She stated that Paul says that
a believer may have perfect liberty to eat
meat sacrificed to idols, so WHY wouldn’t this Passage apply to yoga as well? Is yoga a helpful and healthy
exercise, as believed by many "professing Christians?" It is actually possible for people to become demonized
or driven to suicide or suicidal thoughts
through yoga. The tragic thing is; increasing numbers
of evangelical churches are sponsoring
classes in yoga.
If you want to be
physically fit, you should do exercises
specifically designed to do that. Discuss this with your doctor! BUT - - - IF you want to realize your inborn "godhood"
(self-realization) and achieve union with
Brahman (the universal soul) AN IDOL, then practice
yoga, which is designed to do that. BUT - - - remember - - -
there is
NO such “realization.” But, Satan and his
demons are capable of leading the naive
into this delusional state.
People think they know better, and laugh when someone warns of the danger. They ignorantly state that yoga is just "exercise" and cannot harm anybody.
The Jesus of the Bible does NOT and NEVER will endorse ANY kind of yoga. Yoga, in any way, shape or form, has the ability to corrupt the mind and undo a Christian's faith. Its goal is the conversion
of individuals to an occultic, pantheistic world view.
Christian Yoga, like all yoga, is part of the occult based Hindu religion. Re-labeling yoga for undiscerning westerners does NOT change the facts. Yoga is yoga!
Pantheism is the belief that Almighty God is NOT a personality, but that all laws and forces of the self-existing universe are god, that god is everywhere and everything is god. Do NOT mess around with the occult! Believe in the Creator God of the Universe!
1 John 5:10-12 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. [11] And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (KJV)
