BAPTISMAL REGENERATION
Baptismal Regeneration teaches that the ritual (rite) of water baptism secures the believer and their sins are forgiven . . . thus marking the moment at which the one being baptized is "born again" into the "Body of Christ." Is this what the Bible says about being born again into the family of God? Is this true regarding one's salvation? NO! It is NOT!
Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: [7] Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. [8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. [9] As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (KJV) Also see: 2 Tim.1:9.
There is only one Gospel that must be proclaimed to a lost and dying world! BUT . . . if we look around at the so-called "Christian" world today . . . there are MANY "gospels" preached. Each new modern day religion has its own particular method, its own "gospel" for what people must do to be saved. While each of these "gospels" may claim that faith in Jesus Christ is important, they always ADD something, such as baptism or other man made "commandments"(Mat.15:9) as other requirements to have the "the new birth." . . . See: www.worldlychaos.org/w_c_catholics_doctrine_heresy.1.htm
www.worldlychaos.org/w_c_word_faith_avoid.1.htm
There is a rampant practice in today's 'religions' where wolves in sheep's clothing teach only what the people want to hear (2 Tim.4:3-4 ) and doctrines of devils (1 Tim.4:1) whereby a simple mental agreement that the "Lordship of Christ" is considered sufficient to obtain God's salvation . . . without even specifying what a person MUST believe about Jesus Christ in order to claim Him as "Lord!" (John 1:12-13; 3:15-18,36; 5:24; 8:24; 1 Thes.4:14; 1 John 5:10-13).
The Holy Spirit convicts and enlightens through clear Biblical Scriptures of what God says one MUST believe in order to be saved. BUT . . . this is totally disregarded by this "numbers-oriented" form of evangelism . . . Rick Warren, etc.
Unless you carefully consider the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ, as presented in the Bible, your salvation is at stake! If the message you hear varies in the slightest from the Truth of God's Word, then that "another gospel" is of Satan . . . NOT of God. There is a sad tendency today among many professing Bible believers to put up with those who embrace a false, devil's gospel.
Is it for the sake of "unity" and "the spirit of love"? Or is it because they simply PROFESS to be "Christians" and do not POSSESS Christ in their hearts?
It is necessary to stand firm on the Gospel of Jesus Christ which teaches that there is only one way of salvation . . . and that by grace, through faith, alone! (John 14:6, Acts 4:12; Rom.3:24; 5:1; 6:23; Eph.2:8-9; Rev.1:5-6).
Promoters of Baptismal Regeneration
The Roman Catholic Church was one of the first and most influential 'religions' to promote this horrendous falsehood! Roman Catholic teaching most certainly has NOT changed down through the years. They believe that salvation is secured by ritual baptism INTO the Roman Catholic Church. IF you do not belong to the Catholic church, you are not saved according to them! That is NOT what the Bible teaches!
Vatican Council II says, "The saving act of Jesus was applied to Mary in the moment of her conception; to us in our baptism. . ." (Lumen Gentium 1, 53); ". . .I have washed you clean and given you new life, my life in baptism [these were supposedly the words of Christ Himself]" (Prophecy from the 1988 Roman Catholic Charismatic Conference at Notre Dame). Rome teaches baptismal regeneration.
The Orthodox Churches also teach baptismal regeneration: "Baptism is a new birth. It is being born to the life made new by our Lord Jesus Christ. It means to be alive in Christ... Through Holy Baptism all become Christ's. We become Christians and have the opportunity to inherit God's Kingdom...Why in the world would any parents who claim to be Christians want to put off making their offspring Christians as soon as possible? Don't they want their infants to share in the Kingdom of God? The baptized one becomes a member of Christ's body-His Church" (Doctrine of the Russian Orthodox Church, ONE CHURCH, 1981).
Mormonism says you must be baptized in order to be saved: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, they who believe not on your words, and are not baptized in water in my name, for the remission of their sins, that they may receive the Holy Ghost, shall be damned, and shall not come into my Father's kingdom where my Father and I am" (Mormon Doctrine and Covenants, nos. 84:74).
Seventh Day Adventism teaches baptism is the vehicle in procuring the forgiveness of sins: "Is it necessary for a person to be baptized to be saved? Answer: Yes, indeed! ... A Christian is a newborn 'babe' in Christ. This is why the experience or conversion is called 'the new birth.' No past exists in God's sight. It was buried in the watery grave of baptism...." ("Buried and Forgotten by God!"; a Seventh Day Adventist publication).
The Church of Christ, Episcopalians, an many Lutherans hold the false doctrine of baptismal regeneration in one form or another.
The Jehovah's Witnesses and others could be added to this number, many within Protestantism included.
These groups invariably equate membership in their particular church with salvation itself. QUITE different from what the Bible states! Each of these 'religions' which profess to be "the one true church" incorporate ritual baptism as an essential step in their "What must I do to be saved" formula. They each claim that by means of this ceremony alone, a person is placed into the membership of the "church which alone can save." NO where in the Bible is such a damnable heresy stated!
IF you have ever shared the Gospel of God's saving grace with a Catholic, you know their reaction: "Of course I believe in Christ as my Saviour!" BUT . . . if you ask more questions, it is obvious that "belief" in Christ is NOT their only confidence. They believe that they must continue in faithfulness to "the church" and DO the sacraments of the church (Eph.2:8-9) if there is to be any hope of obtaining everlasting life. That is NOT "believing in Christ" and is NOT the unconditional, absolute faith that produces Bible salvation.
Compromise Abounds
Some mainline Protestants and even "evangelicals" who have historically believed that "salvation by faith alone" are now joining with groups like those listed above. The wolves in sheep's clothing (Mat.7:15) have created a murky haziness with respect to the definition of the TRUE Gospel. They seemingly will go to any length . . . actually disregarding the fundamental message of the Gospel, just to avoid offence and make the baptismal regenerationist feel comfortable in Protestant/evangelical circles.
Some statements from a few prominent religious leaders of our day who supposedly represent churches where "salvation by faith alone" is the standard. Notice how they are siding with above mentioned 'religions' and supporting the false gospel of baptismal regeneration, compromising the very Truth of the Holy Bible.
"In two short decades, we have moved from the living room dialogue in which Protestants and Catholics were just discovering one another to be Christian, to widespread recognition of one another's baptism" (Dr. Arie Brouwer, former General Secretary, National Council of Churches, spoken at the 1988 Arlington, Texas "Gathering of Christians").
TIME magazine for 10/27/61 printed the following quote by Dr. Billy Graham: "I still have some personal problems in the matter of infant baptism, but all of my children with the exception of the youngest were baptized as infants. I do believe that something happens at the baptism of an infant, particularly if the parents are Christians . . . I believe that a miracle can happen in these children so that they are regenerated, that is, made Christian through infant baptism."
Again, at Amsterdam '86, Graham revealed the same strange thinking when asked by this writer how churches from such a broad spectrum of belief-those holding to a "works salvation" included- could be brought together for joint evangelistic outreach. Here is Graham's answer: "Evangelism is about the only word we can unite on.... Our methods would be different and there would be debates over even the message sometimes, but there is no debate over the fact that we need to evangelize....I think there is an ecumenicity here that cannot [be gotten] under any other umbrella."
Bill Bright, president of Campus Crusade for Christ, gave a similar answer when we questioned him about Roman Catholic and Orthodox involvement at the Amsterdam '86 conference: "The Holy Spirit of God is doing something unique in most major denominations-Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic. . . . In all denominations I think there is a return to New Testament faith."
There is a big difference between the gospel preached by churches which advocate FALSE baptismal regeneration (another gospel) and those who preach the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ. It means spending eternity in Hell OR Heaven! This is very serious!
What is Necessary for Salvation?
??What is necessary for salvation?? Faith alone OR faith plus water baptism, church membership, "good works" or whatever else they might come up with? This is something that people today are NOT seriously taking into consideration!
Faith alone is NOT the same as faith plus something!
We ALL are sinners and desperately in need of salvation! The Bible clearly states that a sinner in need of salvation CANNOT be saved by a faith which stands alone . . . AND saved by a faith to which something must be added. The Bible does NOT say anything must be added! The Bible does NOT say that we must belong to a certain specific religion! To err, to believe wrongly at this point is to be eternally lost regardless of how sincere a person might be. The Bible says that Jesus paid it all!
What kind of work did Jesus say we must do? John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? [29] Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (KJV) . . . Jesus said: BELIEVE! That's all!
People naturally think that they must DO something! They think that good works, religious ceremonies, church membership, etc. make them acceptable by God. But, NOT according to Jesus! This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
SO . . . to be approved of before Almighty God . . . the answer is simple, yet so deep and soul wrenching! We are transformed from one in the devil's darkness into a child of God in the kingdom of light (1 John 3:10). This amazing miracle is accomplished solely as a work of God's grace, NOT from any work of any kind on the part of the lost. God has already done the work . . . the sinner is simply to receive the gift of salvation (Eph.2:8; Rom.6:23) by faith . . . believe on him whom he hath sent. Salvation has been provided to whosoever free of charge by Christ Jesus!
The religions that insist on adding additional steps to salvation, say that it is too easy to "just believe." They say, "Don't you know 'the devils also believe, and tremble'?" (James 2:19). BUT . . . that is exactly the point! There are TWO kinds of "believing." One is merely intellectual, in the mind; while the other is a heartfelt trust placed in Christ as the only Saviour and Lord. Yes! The devils DO believe and tremble! But a sinner believes and trusts the Lord Jesus Christ as their only hope and confidence. The devil's belief is merely recognizing Who Jesus is. The lost sinner's belief is complete trust and acceptance of Jesus to save their soul from an eternal Hell. This is why a careful, Biblical distinction must be made between the believing which saves and the believing which requires the addition of works and rituals to reach the desired end . . . salvation !
We are justified by faith, NOT by works (Rom.5:1; Gal. 2:16; 3:22). It is the "false brethren" (Gal. 2:4) who add extras to what Jesus has told us!
Water baptism IS a "good work." A "good work" in Scripture is simply our obedience to the revealed will of God. It is doing something God has commanded those who are already His children. I think that ALL believers should be baptized to show the world they take a stand with Jesus.
ANY additional requirements imposed by false teachers upon the sinner who is invited by God to receive Christ Jesus by faith is "another gospel" a salvation by works . . . and God's curse is clearly pronounced upon it (Gal.1:6-10)!
Gospel of Christ
God's gift of salvation is received the moment that you hear the word of the Gospel and accept its invitation. (Luke 12:8; Acts 2:21; 10:43; 15:11; Rom.1:16; 3:24; 5:10; 10:9-13; 1 Cor.1:17-31; Eph.1:12-14; Heb.5:9). Salvation certainly is NOT a result of doing ANY work. Do NOT let the devil blind you to the simple Truth (2 Cor.4:4).
Faith and Works
Romans 4:3-5 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. [4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. [5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (KJV)
Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (KJV) . . . God's grace, your faith saves you! NOT any works!
Romans 4:23-25 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; [24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; [25] Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. (KJV)
The Biblical record of Abraham's extraordinary faith was not made on his account only. It was made to show the way in which ALL people may be regarded and treated as righteous by God. God has but one method, one plan of justifying men. The righteousness of Christ "imputed to him" the moment he believes.
1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: (KJV) . . . ALL these wondrous things come ONLY from Christ Jesus! We are justified ONLY by our faith in Jesus! Never any works! Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (KJV)
2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [18] And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; [19] To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (KJV)
To be "in Christ" means to be united to Christ by faith; to be in Him, like a branch is in the vine . . . to be joined to the vine, so as to get all its nourishment and support from it, and to be sustained entirely by it (John 15:1-5). We as branches CANNOT bear fruit on our own! We MUST be joined to Christ the Vine. To be "in Christ" means a more loving and close union; and implies that ALL our support comes from Him.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (KJV) NO works! Just God's grace and our faith!
Faith which brings us Bible salvation is an unconditional, absolute reliance upon the Lord Jesus as the ONLY Saviour with NO confidence in anything or anyone else.
With today's ever increasing false teachers bringing damnable heresies (2 Pet.2:1) to people looking for an easier and more pleasant way to Heaven, I strongly urge you to really consider what the Bible says~!
I do NOT expose false teachers and false doctrines because I enjoy it. I do it because I have always hated the results. God does NOT want you to go to Hell (2 Pet.3:9), and neither do I, so I try desperately to show you the right road to take to avoid it!
The Right Place for Water Baptism
Satan is so deceitful! Those who believe in baptismal regeneration quickly point out that so many different religions go this route, it must be one of the ways to be saved. WRONG! There are absolutely NOT many ways to be saved . . . there is only ONE Way to be saved.
Water baptism is viewed by TRUE believers as an outward sign of the inward reality of having already been "born again" by the power of God (John 1:12-13). The very moment a sinner truly and sincerely trusts Christ as his Saviour, he is baptized by the Spirit of God into the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:12-13). Many people walk the isle, some with tears, but ONLY God knows if that person is sincere! Millions PROFESS to be "Christian" but they are hypocrites in God's eyes!
God's Spirit will NOT baptize anyone who is NOT sincere. There is NO salvation for anyone who is not "in Christ," and this spiritual regeneration takes place the moment the lost sinner receives Christ by faith (John 1:12; 5:24). All who are saved have received this baptism which God administers, not man.
Water baptism is an ordinance of the Church which should be administered ONLY to those who have already been saved. Baptism by immersion (Rom.6:3-4) symbolizes what has already been accomplished by God. The ordinances (Baptism and the Lord's Supper) and "good works" (obedience to God's will) are things that takes place AFTER being born again . . . the result of saving faith. Salvation cannot be bestowed or awarded by ANY church. Salvation is a gift from God because of a person's belief and faith in Jesus' work on the cross!
Personally, I believe that when a person is born again, they should be baptized by immersion, to show the world that they take a stand with Jesus!
