False Teachers

Rick Warren

EXCERPTS FROM “THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE”

Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life contains extensive documentation of his dangerous and unscriptural “judge not” ecumenical philosophy.

Warren's words are in bold brown.

On page 164, Warren says, “God warns us over and over not to criticize, compare, or judge each other. ... Whenever I judge another believer, four things instantly happen: I lose fellowship with God, I expose my own pride, I set myself to be judged by God, and I harm the fellowship of the church.”

In reality, God's TRUE children have a huge obligation to JUDGE EVERYTHING by God’s Word. The believers at Corinth were rebuked because they were careless in this regard and were tolerant of false teachers. 2 Cor. 11:1-4 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. [2] For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. [3] But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. [4] For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. (KJV)

But the Bereans were commended because they carefully tested everything by the Scriptures. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (KJV)

The Bible says: 1 Cor. 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. (KJV)

Jesus said: John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. (KJV)

We as disciples of Christ are to judge preaching. 1 Cor. 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. (KJV)

We as disciples of Christ are to judge sin in churches. See: 1 Cor. 5.

We as disciples of Christ are to try the spirits. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (KJV)

We as disciples of Christ are to TEST each and every preacher and their message VERY carefully by God’s Word. IF we don't, we are NOT wise and obedient children of God.

On page 34 of The Purpose Driven Life, Warren says: “God won’t ask about your religious background or doctrinal views. The only thing that will matter is, did you accept what Jesus did for you and did you learn to love and trust him?” To an unbeliever or babe in Christ, this sounds like it is correct, BUT, IF this is true, WHY does the Bible say so much about doctrine? and WHY did the apostles call for doctrinal purity on every hand? Paul instructed Timothy to allow “no other doctrine”. 1 Tim. 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, (KJV)

Many false teachers are teaching another gospel!!! Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: (KJV) All preachers SHOULD be teaching and preaching the TRUE Gospel of out Lord Jesus Christ, but many are NOT doing it!!! They SHOULD be taking a very strict stand on doctrinal purity, the stand we find throughout the New Testament. Millions of people are basing their souls upon Rick Warren's teaching instead of the pure and Holy Word of God.

Christ Jesus is very concerned about doctrinal purity or He wouldn't have spent so so much time warning the apostles about false doctrines and doctrines of devils! See, for example, 2 Cor. 11:1-4; Gal. 1:6-12; Phil. 3:18-21; Col. 2:8; 1 Tim. 4:1-5; 1 Tim. 6:20-21; 2 Tim. 4:1-4; 2 Pet. 2.

Rick Warren requires his church members to sign a covenant that he or she promises to protect the unity of the church (The Purpose Driven Life, p. 167). This is a dangerous and unscriptural covenant. God's children are not instructed to submit to a church or to its leaders blindly and at any cost. We are commanded to “prove all things”. 1 Thes. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (KJV) ALL things!!!

No preacher or teacher is above being tested by God’s Word. We should check out everything that we hear or read! ALL preaching should be carefully judged by God’s Word. Blind loyalty to a church is like being in the Catholic church with the pope calling ALL the shots!!! It is complete heresy.

Warren even claims that “conflict is usually a sign that the focus has shifted to less important things” (p. 162).

This is NOT so! The apostle Paul was involved in conflicts most of the time. He quite often takes a stand against false teachers. In his letters to his fellow preacher Timothy, Paul repeatedly warned about false teachers by name (1 Tim. 1:19-20; 2 Tim. 1:15; 2:17-18; 4:12, 14).

And, what about what Jesus said??? Luke 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: (KJV) The apostle John backs this up!!! John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him. (KJV)

Many of today's professing Christians are on the broad road to apostasy. They are spiritually malnourished and have little spiritual discernment. And many false teachers are bringing "judge not" from the pulpits.

What about what Jesus says???

Matthew 7:20-23 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (KJV) What is Jesus saying here??? Is He telling us NOT to judge? NO! He is clearly telling us we will know what people are like by what they do or say (their fruits)! We as Christians are permitted to judge people who call themselves "Christians" (them that are within 1 Cor.5:12). Let God judge the unbelievers (them that are without).

Yes! Jesus does say: Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. (KJV) But, He also states in Matthew 7:21-23 one of the most frightening warnings found in all the Scriptures.

Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV)

Many (not just a few) people call Jesus "Lord, Lord. . ." many PROFESS to be "Christians" and many are they that "prophesy in thy name. . ." and ". . . cast out devils. . ." and in the Name of Jesus Christ perform "many wonderful works. . .". BUT, Jesus will say to them: "I NEVER knew you." They were NEVER saved. If they had been saved, Jesus would not say, I NEVER knew you. YES! There are many out there doing good things! But IF they are doing good things and are NOT saved, I NEVER knew you is what they shall hear on Judgment Day! Despite their many wonderful works in the Name of Jesus, despite calling Him "Lord, Lord", Christ Jesus will cast them into an eternal lake of fire, saying: "ye that work iniquity." Very thought provoking to say the least!!!

Matthew 7:13-20 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: [14] Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. [15] Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. [16] Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? [17] Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. [18] A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. [19] Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. [20] Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (KJV)

How can we "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" IF we do not "judge" who are the "false prophets" are? How can we KNOW who the "false prophets" are? These preachers appear as "sheep" (saved people), spouting smooth words to their immense following; but they are nothing but "ravening wolves." HOW do we know? There is only one way!!! Check out EVERYTHING and EVERYONE by the Word of God; the perfect and unchangeable Word of God (Acts 17:11).

These false teachers/preachers say: "I can't judge them, I don't know their heart."

What does Jesus say??? Matthew 15:18-19 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. [19] For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (KJV) ANYTHING that comes out the mouth STARTS in the heart!!

BEWARE! False teachers can and will lead you to an ETERNAL HELL!
