CHARISMATIC
MOVEMENT IS DANGEROUS
My Opinion of Charismatics
*****#1 It is DANGEROUS because it accepts tongues, interpretations of tongues, dreams, visions, and signs as being messages from God. This is gravely dangerous! If a person accepts these “messages” it won’t be long before they are accepting anti-Biblical messages as being valid. The fact is, all these messages are dangerous because they are NOT backed up Biblically! We are NOT to add to God’s Word!
Deut. 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. (KJV)
Deut. 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. (KJV)
Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (KJV)
Rev. 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV) . . . The Word of God is a completed (finished) revelation by the Holy Spirit! It is the Holy Spirit who warns us in the above verses! BEWARE! Anyone who adds to God’s Word is certainly NOT authorized or empowered by God! If it’s not of God, it’s of the devil!
*****#2 It is DANGEROUS because it encourages its followers to stay in apostate churches which teach a false gospel by declaring that if the supposed “gifts of the Spirit” are present in these cults, then why not join them in worship? God’s Word clearly tells us that anyone who preaches “another gospel” are cursed.
Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (KJV) . . . Anyone who fellowships with false teachers participates in their wickedness.
2 John 1:10-11 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: [11] For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. (KJV) . . . Satan deceives through false tongues, signs, miracles, healing, etc. Charismatics overlook serious doctrinal errors that bring with them eternal consequences, and say it is in the unity of the Spirit. BEWARE!
*****#3 It is DANGEROUS because it places non Biblical and unmerited emphasis on physical healing. So many Charismatics FALSELY teach that it is God’s will to heal everyone of everything. This is NOT true.
2 Cor. 12:7-10 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. [8] For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. [9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [10] Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. (KJV) . . . Paul asked God THREE times to heal him. God did NOT heal Paul! Both the Bible and life tell us that God can and does use physical suffering for testing our faith in Him, for making us mature, for correction and for chastening us (Heb.12:3-11; Job 23:10). YES! God’s Word also tells us that God CAN heal anyone, anytime He chooses, BUT, He does NOT heal everyone, every time! When we pray for healing for ourselves or others, we must let the decision up to God, for He knows what is best for His children. We must NEVER demand or claim such healing as the Charismatics do. This is wrong!
*****#4 It is DANGEROUS because it promotes and encourages an unscriptural practice called “coming under the power,” in which leaders “lay hands” on people causing them to “swoon, faint, slump down, experience the power” etc., and remain on the floor for several seconds. There is absolutely NO Scriptural reference for this hypnotic trance. Charismatics use the following verse to justify this demonic practice.
John 18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. (KJV) . . . Judas and the officers were struck down by the power and the glorious brilliance of the majesty of Christ which overpowered them. Charismatics, in my opinion are under the power of Satan. This is just another example of how they twist the Scriptures to defend their ungodly practices. BEWARE! If it is not of God, it is of the devil! The word backward refers to judgment in the Bible.
*****#5 It is DANGEROUS because it glories in miracles, and most of the time the miracle is a person’s message or practice, even though it is totally unscriptural. WEe should glory only in GOD! What Scriptures does teach is the following:
2 Thes. 2:9-11 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (KJV) . . . Charismatics believe some awful lies.
Luke 11:29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. (KJV) . . . . People then and now, seek (want, demand) signs or they won’t believe! Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. (KJV) . . . If false prophets and false christs shall show signs and wonders, WHO is it that empowers them? Only one answer to that one . . . Satan! BEWARE of the false doctrine of Charismatics!
*****#6 It is DANGEROUS because it promotes unscriptural teachings concerning the power of Satan. Charismatic leaders get the people into a frenzy as they speak of binding Satan, casting him out of individuals and into the pit, stomping Satan, chasing him out of this world. Oh! How dangerous this is! This is NOT Scriptural in any way! BEWARE!
Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. (KJV) . . . Even this powerful angel of God would not speak against Satan! How then, can weak humanity contend with the devil? That would be stupidity! If mighty Michael didn’t dare speak against the devil, there is NO way Charismatics (or anyone else) has power over him, to order him around! Stupidity! Satan is very strong in the world today and can be ordered around only by Almighty God! BEWARE!
CHARISMATIC
MOVEMENT IS WRONG
*****#1 It is WRONG because it teaches that you either speak in tongues or you are not saved. This is utterly FALSE! Charismatics say the evidence of your being saved is by speaking in tongues. If you cannot speak in tongues, you do not have the Holy Spirit abiding within. This is NOT what the Bible says! BEWARE!
Titus 3:5-7 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; [7] That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (KJV)
1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (KJV)
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (KJV)
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (KJV)
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (KJV)
1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (KJV)
1 Cor. 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. (KJV) The Spirit's Presence is given to EVERY born again believer!
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (KJV)
Ephes. 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (KJV) . . . There is only one God and Father, who is over us all and in us all and living through us all. God’s Holy Spirit abides within ALL born again believers.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (KJV) . . . Christ has poured out His Spirit upon you. So, how long does His Spirit remain in you? For ever! (John 14:16 above) also: 2 John 1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. (KJV) Speaking in tongues does NOT give us the Gift of the Holy Spirit. God gives ALL born again believers the Holy Spirit!
*****#2 It is WRONG because it teaches that God will physically heal all who have enough faith. The following verse is the source Charismatics use for this unscriptural belief.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (KJV) . . . IF you search the Scriptures, you shall find that physical healing is NOT part of the Gospel of Christ. This awesome verse is speaking of our spiritual healing, NOT physical healing as the Charismatics claim!
1 Peter 2:24-25 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. [25] For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. (KJV) . . . See what this says! We, being dead to sins . . . the Gospel teaches spiritual healing, NOT physical healing! We are healed from spiritual sickness. IF physical healing was part of the atonement of Christ, every cemetery would speak of the failure of Christ to fulfill that part of the atonement.
*****#3 It is WRONG because it teaches that only certain people are “anointed.” Again, this is NOT Scriptural!
2 Cor. 1:21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; (KJV) . . . Almighty God anoints ALL born again believers!
1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. (KJV) . . . We have had the Holy Spirit poured out on us by Christ, so we all know the Truth. The Holy One (the Holy Spirit of God) has anointed us!
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (KJV) . . . Born again believers HAVE been anointed!
Ephes. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (KJV) . . . We are anointed, ordained, chosen, determined by GOD to be His children.
*****#4 It is WRONG because it teaches that God is still giving people verbal messages. This is not so. God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit who is within us. Each and every time that someone speaks in tongues or receives a so-called “prophecy,” they are “adding to” God’s Word (Deut. 4:2).
Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. (KJV) . . . According to this . . . charismatics are "liars."
*****#5 It is WRONG because it teaches that God wants everyone to be rich. This is a doctrine of devils because it makes a person keep their eyes on things of the world, NOT things of God. People lust for treasures of Earth. The Bible teaches NO such thing! The Bible teaches as follows:
Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: [20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: [21] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV) . . . Jesus' Words! Riches on this Earth, in this life, are NOT a part of our salvation. They will be in our next life in Heaven (Rom.8:17; Jam.2:5).
1 Peter 1:4-5 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, [5] Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (KJV) . . . Believer’s mansions (John 14:2-3) are reserved in Heaven for us!
*****#6 It is WRONG because it teaches that dreams, visions and signs are readily accepted. People who CLAIM that they have been in Heaven are simply liars as I see it! What happened when the apostle John had a vision of the Lord Jesus???
Rev. 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: (KJV) . . . John fell at Jesus’ Feet as though he were dead!
What about Moses? Exodus 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. (KJV) . . . Moses was afraid to look at God (Jesus).
What about Daniel? Daniel 10:8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. (KJV) . . . There remained NO strength in Daniel. The greatest and best of men CANNOT hold up under the full discovery of His Divine glory; for NO man can see it, and live. Satan has the power to give visions if he so chooses, and he does choose to do so. BEWARE!
1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. (KJV)
Didn’t Satan give a vision to Jesus Himself when He was being tempted of the devil for those 40 days and 40 nights? Luke 4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. (KJV)
Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. (KJV) . . . It is possible for believers to be deceived. The arguments and proofs from deceivers in the end times will be so convincing that it will be very difficult not to fall away from Christ. If we are prepared, Jesus says, we can remain faithful. But if we are not prepared, we will turn away (apostasy).
2 Cor. 11:14-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. [15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV)
Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. (KJV) . . . Why do people listen to and support false prophets, then and now? Because these “prophets” said what the people wanted to hear. False teachers become rich and famous by telling people what they want to hear, by deceiving them. They lead people away from God. If we listen to, or encourage false teachers, we are as guilty as they are.
Jeremiah 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. (KJV) . . . The Lord God Almighty tells us NOT to listen to what the false prophets say; do NOT believe their lies of visions. They tell you what they have imagined and not what I have said. BEWARE!
*****#7 It is WRONG because it magnifies the power of Satan. They repeat over and over “I bind you Satan.” This is NOT Scriptural! Anyone who knows the Bible knows that Satan was bound at the cross, and has NO authority over TRUE believers. It is very unfortunate that so many “tongues” speakers think that demons can indwell a born again believer. What they are actually saying is: “Satan has more power than the Holy Spirit.” Since we are the redeemed children of God, sanctified by Christ Jesus, Satan has no authority over us. We CANNOT be demon possessed!
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (KJV) . . . Satan CANNOT be compared to God the Holy Spirit.
*****#8 It is WRONG because it overemphasizes and distorts the True doctrine of the Holy Spirit. I have always felt that Charismatics give the Holy Spirit far more glory than Christ Jesus, and that is NOT what the Holy Spirit wants.
John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (KJV) . . . The above Scripture Passage clearly tells us what the mission of the Holy Spirit is! He is to teach us about Jesus, and illuminate the meaning of Scriptures to us. BUT, the tongues movement focuses continually on the Holy Spirit by their tongues and messages. Show me one place where Jesus tells us to speak in tongues! It is NOT in the Bible!
The Holy Spirit indwells born again believers and equips us to witness to others about Jesus. He does NOT draw believers to Himself, but instead guides believers into all Truth. He is called the Spirit of Truth, and since modern tongues are fake, He is absolutely NOT behind them in any way whatsoever. If it is not of God, it’s of the devil. BEWARE!
*****#9 It is WRONG because it teaches being “slain in the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit gives life, He does NOT slay anyone. Being slain in the Spirit is when a person falls backward, which is supposedly an empowered action of the Holy Spirit, but in my opinion, it is of the devil! Anytime that Scriptures mention “backward” it refers to judgment (Isa.1:4; 28:13; 1 Sam.4:18; John 18:5-6). God’s Word brings life to believers, not judgment. TRUE believers no longer face judgment (condemned to Hell) because of Jesus’ Work on the cross. “Slain in the Spirit” does not fit into our testimony of the Gospel of Christ.
*****#10 It is WRONG because it falsely teaches baptism in the Holy Spirit. Charismatics think that when a person is baptized in the Holy Spirit, they begin to speak in tongues, giving proof of the Holy Spirit’s Presence in their life. Show me one place where Jesus tells us to speak in tongues! It is NOT in the Bible!
The Bible teaches that baptism in the Holy Spirit is the washing away of our sins. Baptism means washing. Washing is the object of the word baptism. Any person who becomes a child of God (John 1:12), has their sins washed away the moment of their salvation, NOT at a later date.
Proof that a person has the Holy Spirit abiding within them how they live their life, NOT by any gibberish that flows from their mouth. Do they trust and obey God? Do they walk the narrow road with Jesus? By their fruits ye shall know them. (Mat.7:20).
1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (KJV) . . . ALL born again believers have been baptized into Christ’s body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit.
Titus 3:5-6 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; (KJV) . . . All three Persons of the Trinity are mentioned here because all three participate in the work of salvation. Based upon the redemptive work of His Son, the Father forgives and sends the Holy Spirit to wash away our sins and continually renew us, day after day.
#10 It is WRONG because it teaches joy, happiness, worldly satisfaction and the best things in life, should be their aim; this is in complete opposition to the Bible.
Charismatics place continual emphasis on material goods and happiness. That is NOT what Jesus is saying in this Passage! We need to think of eternity. Charismatics rarely ever speak on Hell. The realities of Hell are spoken of in the Bible much more than Heaven. WHY? Because God does NOT want anyone to go there. God wants you to think about eternity. You CANNOT take it with you! BEWARE!
*****#11 It is WRONG because tongues are spoken by Satanists. The same chanting and babbling that tongues speakers do, is done by witch doctors in Africa and voo doo witch doctors in the Caribbean and elsewhere (here in the states). So, the tongues that Charismatics and witch doctors jabber to idols, is similar. This one thing alone would make you ask: “What is the source, where is this coming from?” If it’s not of God, it is of the devil! This I KNOW for a fact! BEWARE!
*****#12 It is WRONG because it contradicts the Holy Word of Almighty God!
QUESTIONS
YOU THINK ABOUT
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that everyone would
be healed of every disease?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that He wants everyone
wealthy?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we will be able to
command angels?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we will receive visions?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we must speak in
tongues?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we can twist and
distort His Holy Word?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we will receive prophecies
from Him, outside the Bible?
• Did God say anywhere in the Bible that we will be able to
cast out demons?
The answer to ALL these questions is a definite and emphatic NO! Don’t believe me. Check it out for yourself! Charismatic teachers falsely tell you that you can have more: riches, possessions, pleasure, etc.. For many years, the church (Body of Christ), has continually been accepting false doctrines, false assumptions, and deceptive Bible versions. The church is speeding to the complete apostate state prophesied in God’s Word. BEWARE of apostasy! Matthew 24:11-13 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. [12] And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. [13] But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (KJV)
1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (KJV)
2 Thes.2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (KJV)
Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV)
Ezekiel 33:18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. (KJV)
SUMMARY
OF WHAT I BELIEVE
I teach the Bible. I have for many years. When God called me to
this frightening job, I truly thought He was making a big mistake.
Being a woman, my teaching and literature is rejected by many. But,
Christ was also rejected! All I know is that IF it is of God, it
will stand . . . and IF it is not of God, it will fall. It has been
19 years now that our ministry (the Lord, my husband and me)
has been serving the prisons and jails, and the free world. It has
been over 20 years since I have been teaching Bible classes. We
are still going strong. I knew nothing of the Bible when I was born
again into the family of God (John 1:12; 3:3-8;
1 John 5:9-12), and when I knew what God wanted me to do, I was
shocked and terrified. There are a multitude of people much better educated,
much better equipped to do the job than me. But when God calls a
person, He equips him/her to do the task. I teach the BIBLE because
the Holy Spirit placed it on my heart to do so! I do NOT teach any
denominational doctrines (Mat.15:9; Mark 7:7; Col. 2:22; 1 Tim.
4:1; Heb.13:9).
What I have written here about tongues (Charismatics, Pentecostals),
is not for people who choose to stay in this movement (cult). I
know it would be almost impossible to sway you. It is written with
deep concern for those struggling to decide whether to join them.
I write to warn those on the outside to stay away because it is
highly DANGEROUS and WRONG! It is NOT Biblical, and it represents
Almighty God’s judgment on the church, NOT the moving of the
Holy Spirit in the last days. Tongues, signs, miracles, visions
and wonders are prophesied in the Bible. 2 Thes. 2:10-12 And with all deceivableness
of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not
the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [11] And for this
cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe
a lie: [12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth,
but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (KJV) . . . We have
a free will. God gives people freedom to turn their backs on Him
(apostasy) and believe Satan’s lies. If anyone says no to
God's Truth, they absolutely shall experience the consequences of
their sin.
JOEL’S
PROPHECY
Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. (KJV)
Joel makes it very clear in the Passage above that we are discussing Israel, in mount Zion and in Jerusalem, whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. Joel refers to a certain place on the map, the land of Israel! And too, the remnant always refers to Israel. NOT to the Gentiles or the church. The word remnant appears just six times in the New Testament and it always refers to Israel.
So, what did Peter mean when he referred to this Passage on the Day of Pentecost? Did he mean that the prophecy of Joel was fulfilled? NO, he did not say that, he never claimed that Joel’s prophecy was fulfilled. On the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples they began to speak to Jews who had come to Jerusalem from all over the Roman Empire. Every man heard the message in his own tongue. YES, the disciples were speaking to Jews, but this outpouring of the Spirit was upon the church, NOT the nation Israel. The disciples were NOT speaking in unknown tongues. Each tongue was the native tongue of one or more of the men who were gathered there from all over the Roman Empire and even beyond the empire. Read Acts 2 carefully and you will see.
Many people believed, but others began to mock and say that the disciples were drunk . . . filled with new wine. Simon Peter answers them, acting as the spokesman for the group: “… Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these (the disciples) are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day” (Acts 2:14–15). Peter says you would not find people drunk at 9:00 AM in the morning. Peter continues, “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel” (Acts 2:16). Please note that Peter does NOT say that this is in fulfillment of what the prophet Joel said. All the Gospel writers and the apostle Paul are very clear when they say that something is the fulfillment of prophecy. For instance, see Mat.2:17–18,23; Acts 13:32–33. The Bible is very definite about fulfillment of a prophecy. What does Peter say in Acts 2:16? “… this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel." He does NOT say it was a fulfillment of what Joel had predicted. He said, “This is that” . . . this is like that or similar to that. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter was speaking to Jews who knew the Old Testament. Pentecost was also called the Feast of Weeks and was held 50 days after Passover. It was one of three major annual feasts that all adult Jewish males were required to attend (Deut. 16:16).
Peter says to them in effect, “Don’t mock or ridicule this thing which you see happening. This is like that which is going to take place in the Day of the Lord as it is told to us by the prophet Joel.” Joel’s prophecy shall occur in the last days. The Spirit of God WAS poured out at Pentecost on the church, but NOT upon all flesh. Joel’s prophecy was NOT fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost! 3000 were saved, but even if it had been 300,000, it still would not have been fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy. This is yet to happen!
If you have read this and it has made you think twice about the tongues movement, then my efforts have not been in vain. My prayer is that the Lord may give you abundant spiritual discernment and insight as we rapidly approach the last day. I realize that what I have written will anger those already in the movement. I can’t help that. I will NOT apologize! I must write what God places on my heart. I have brought forth Scriptures proving Charicmatics are wrong.
