SIN IN THE HUMAN HEART
The Bible is consistent and steadfast in teaching that all people are naturally flawed. This fundamental idea, like that of sin, is not at all popular with many today. Dear friend, what we need to embrace is NOT what is popular with the wicked world . . . but what is TRUE! The Bible as God's Holy Word is TRUE when it speaks on any subject and certainly on the condition of man. Consider the following Scriptures, all of which speak of the condition of man’s heart.
The prophet Jeremiah clearly described the human heart in this way: Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (KJV)
King David said it this way: Psalm 53:1-3 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. 2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. 3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (KJV)
King Solomon says it this way: Proverbs 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. (KJV)
King Solomon also said this: Eccl. 9:3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. (KJV)
The LORD Jesus had this to say: Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (KJV)
Mark 7:20-23 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (KJV)
The apostle Paul said this: Romans 7:18-25 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. (KJV)
The writer of Hebrews wrote this: Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV)
This James, is Jesus' half-brother, not James the apostle, said this: James 1:13-15 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (KJV)
Jamess 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? (KJV) . . . ALL sin starts in the heart!
Matthew 12:34-35 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. (KJV) . . . Again! ALL sin STARTS in the heart!
While some might shudder at the thought of admitting to the presence of sin in their heart, there are a few (Mat.7:13-14) that find hope in being able to understand WHAT it is that makes them move to doing that which they know is wrong. My prayer is that these few find greater hope in the words of our Great Physician, Jesus, who has provided the ONLY MEDICINE to defeat this enemy within:
Luke 5:31-32 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (KJV)
John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (KJV)
