HIS SERVANTS' MINISTRY

Time and Patience is Needed to Grow

Growth takes time! It progresses and develops as time passes by. Some thoughts to consider:

Do NOT expect to reach your goal overnight.

Children do not become full-grown immediately. It takes years for a child to become an adult.
Time passes and, they are wondering how the time passed so fast. It is the same spiritually. Do NOT expect to mature overnight.
James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (KJV)
Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls. (KJV)
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (KJV)
1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (KJV)
Psalm 27:14  Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (KJV)

To become perfect and mature Christians, lacking nothing, we must have patience.

Some new-born Christians want to know everything, right now! And they want to do everything right now. They do not seem willing to take the time to study and develop ability. Yet they want to be just like the mature members . . . before they take time to grow.
At times older members are impatient with these young ones, not understanding why they have trouble with some basic ideas. Often it is because these new members never really were taught what the BIBLE said before. They have no background in the Scriptures, and it does take a lot of time to grow and to understand.

The people who are mature today, did NOT get that way overnight! It took years of study and practice and patience. New converts will not become mature overnight. It will take time.
New members should not get discouraged and give up . . . and the older members should not be impatient or overly demanding.

Do NOT become discouraged by mistakes and rebukes.

Children make many mistakes and must often be told they are wrong; so too are spiritual children! New converts will make many mistakes and must often be told they are wrong.

Some of the greatest men in the Bible committed terrible mistakes and had to be rebuked.
* Moses made excuses when God called him to lead Israel out of bondage (Ex.3:11).
* David committed adultery with Bathsheba and was rebuked by Nathan (2 Sam.12:1-7).
* Peter denied Jesus three times (Lk.22:61).
* Paul persecuted Christians before his conversion (Acts 9:1).
* Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection (Jn.20:27).
* All the apostles forsook Jesus when He was arrested and crucified (Mk.14:50).

Matthew 16:15-18 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (KJV) . . . Very shortly after, Peter contradicted Jesus and was severely rebuked.
Matthew 16:21-23 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (KJV)

Great servants are NOT people who live with no sin. They are people who learn from their mistakes and go on to serve God faithfully.

Proverbs 29:1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. (KJV) . . . A person is destroyed, NOT simply because he makes a mistake, but because he becomes stubborn when he is rebuked and refuses to repent. We need to repent and patiently learn to do right.

It is no shame to be a spiritual baby, if you were born a few months ago. But IF a person has been a child of God for several years and has not grown, he has a problem. Everyone needs to grow as a Christian, and everyone can grow, IF he/she simply applies the Bible principles of growth to their life.
