Spiritual NOURISHMENT

We Need Spiritual Food from God's Word.

A child cannot grow physically without proper food. Good parents are concerned about proper nutrition. They want children to eat what is good, not bad for them. Most children WANT nourishment. Babies cry for food when they are hungry. Even adults know that we need food, and we want it every day, several times a day.

It is the same with spiritual babies. We cannot grow without feeding on God's Word.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (KJV) . . . As newborn babes, we need the pure milk of the word, that we may grow.

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (KJV) . . . When we study God’s Word, we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
(KJV) . . . We do NOT live by physical bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, that we find in the Bible!

Matthew 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (KJV) . . .  To hunger and thirst after righteousness is actually to have a burning desire to be RIGHT with God. We need to go back to the first Beatitude. We must be poor in spirit to have ANY desire to please God! This burning desire is to be a continual, constant desire, and when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, Jesus promises that we shall be filled.

To get spiritual nourishment, we must study the Bible.

Scriptures show the need for regular nourishment.
Hebrews 5:11-14  Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (KJV) . . . Christians were rebuked for not growing as they should have, because they had not studied. Time and again members fall away or are spiritual midgets because they do not EAT properly.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (KJV) . . . The Bereans were able to govern whether truth was taught because they searched the Scriptures DAILY. We need REGULAR nourishment so we can do the same!

Psalm 1:1-2  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (KJV) . . . IF we read God’s Word daily, we can meditate on it all through the day and night. Spiritual children AND adults must have physical food regularly, and get very upset without it. . . . WHY are so many Christians content to go for days at a time without feeding on God's word?

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (KJV) . . . Joshua had the right idea! We need to take his advice!

Which do you nourish the best: your spirit or your body? Are you feeding your mind on God's word or worldly pleasures? Christians need regular nourishment from God's word to grow.
