Biblical Repentance

There is a lot of argument and confusion in today’s churches today over what repent means. If you say that believing is all that is needed to be saved, you will be accused of preaching easy believism, or the 1-2-3 Gospel. If you teach that repentance is needed for salvation, then you are accused of adding works to faith for salvation. Neither of these teachings is correct. The Truth is that we are not saved by repenting, we are saved by our faith in Jesus Christ!

Satan blinds people from seeing the Gospel.
2 Corinthians 4:4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (KJV)  http://www.godcannotlie.org/2_cor_ch.4.html
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (KJV)

Repentance toward God from Unbelief

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/luke_ch13.htm
Luke 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. (KJV)
Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. (KJV) . . . . . . . .  http://www.godcannotlie.org/luke_ch15.htm
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (KJV)
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (KJV)
Biblical repentance means to change one’s mind. TRUE repentance will result in a change of actions. Biblical repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action.

What is the connection between repentance and salvation? The Book of Acts seems to especially focus on repentance in regards to salvation. So, repentance in relation to salvation, is to change your mind in regard to Jesus Christ. In Peter’s sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts chapter 2), he concludes with a call for the people to repent.
Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
Repent from what? Peter is speaking to the people who rejected Jesus in Acts 2:36; to change their minds about Him, to be aware of the fact that He is Lord and Christ (Messiah). Peter is calling the people to change their minds from rejecting the Messiah to having FAITH in Him as both Messiah and Saviour. Acts 2:36-37  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? (KJV)

Repentance and faith are rightly two sides of the same coin. Dear one, it is impossible to place your faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour unless you understand WHO He is and WHAT He has done. Repentance is a change of mind, from what you first believed about Jesus . . . to the Truth of Who and What He is! So, Biblical repentance, in relation to salvation, is changing your mind from rejecting Christ to faith in Christ.

It is very important that we know that repentance is NOT a work that we do to earn salvation. No one can repent and come to God unless God Himself pulls that person to Himself.
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (KJV)
John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. (KJV)
HOW does a person receive this divine revelation and divine drawing? Only ONE way . . . that being the Third Person of our awesome Triune God, the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit IS God, and He NEVER stops working in this world. He points to Jesus, and leads a person to Jesus. Any time you feel a 'nudge' that you cannot explain, it is the Holy Spirit trying to get you to look to Jesus! But, my friend, He will strive for just so long, then turn away from you because you have rejected His attempts for too long. BEWARE!!! Do not let this happen to you! The Father is trying to "draw" you through His Spirit, to Him. PLEASE do NOT push Him away!
